Text Box: Ministry of Children & Family Development

The Ministry of Children and Family Development provides a spectrum of services that promotes healthy children, families and communities.
MCFD has a Family Service Team providing supports and services for families and children who are experiencing challenges in their lives.
The team works collaboratively with other services within the FRC to promote positive child and family development.
The Ministry believes that they should provide the least intrusive intervention necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our most vulnerable children, youth and their families. This is demonstrated by a variety of approaches that may include mediation and family group conferencing. A Family Group Conferencing Specialist will be available at the FRC to promote an inclusive family and community process related to the long term placement and care of vulnerable children.

Northern Interior

Children First Initiative

The Northern Interior Children First Initiative is an innovative community directed initiative committed to strengthening and supporting children, youth and their families in Prince George, Quesnel, Mackenzie and The Robson and Canoe Valleys.

The first six years of a child's life are critical. What happens during this time frame will have lifelong effects on their overall health, abilities, and social competencies. In addition to Early Childhood Initiatives, the Northern Interior Children First Initiative supports the Children and Youth with Special Needs Framework and Initiatives.

Explaining the work, or activities, of the Northern Interior Children First Initiative is often challenging. Community development by its very nature is somewhat nebulous. Nonetheless, the work of the Northern Interior Children First Initiative should be understood as core to the healthy development of children, youth and their families.

The goal of the Northern Interior Children First Initiative is to build upon the strengths of existing community resources in order to create an environment where children, youth and families can flourish in health, education and social development.
